World Aids Day - December 1

BINGHAMTON, NY - Southern Tier residents are invited to participate in local events taking place on World AIDS Day, December 1, 2003, to commemorate those who have died from HIV/AIDS and to give individuals, organizations, and public officials an opportunity to renew their commitment to increase AIDS awareness and promote HIV prevention programs locally. Events honoring World AIDS Day will be held in Broome, Chenango and Tioga counties.

In Broome County participants will gather at 6:00 p.m. at the Broome County Courthouse, Court Street, Binghamton, for a brief program. A silent candlelight march will follow and proceed to Trinity Memorial Church, 44 Main Street, Binghamton, for an evening of remembrance and celebration of life program. Chenango County will also begin its celebration with a silent candlelight march at 6:00 p.m. The march will commence from the lobby of the Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich and proceed to the gazebo in the park by the Courthouse where a short program will be held. After the program the march will continue on to the United Church of Christ First Congregational, 11 West Main Street, Norwich, NY. In Tioga County a program will take place at 4:00 p.m. at Marvin Park, Owego, which will include the dedication of a tree in remembrance of those living with HIV and those who have died from AIDS.
