Application Deadline for June Flood Victims is Wednesday
Up To $2500 Available Per Household
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala wants to remind victims, of the June flooding disaster, that the deadline for applying for additional flood assistance is tomorrow, November 22nd, 2006. All applications must be postmarked by the 22nd.
Unfortunately, the strict guidelines for this money restrict any City of Binghamton or Town of Union resident from receiving funds from this grant. That is because the city and the town receive Community Development Block Grant money.
Broome County was awarded $250,000 by the Governor’s Office of Small Cities to provide limited assistance to households displaced by the June 28, 2006 flooding. These funds may only be used to fill the gap between actual, immediate housing needs and other disaster related funding from FEMA, New York State, the Red Cross, or private insurance.
The grant money comes with strict income eligibility guidelines. Information about the grant money, the application process and the income guidelines can be viewed at www.southerntierredcross.org or www.goBroomeCounty.com under “Flood Information” on the home page. The applications can be downloaded from the same locations.
Applications should be filled out and returned to:
American Red Cross
Southern Tier Chapter
620 East Main St.
Endicott, NY 13760
Even though there are strict income guidelines, all June flood victims are encouraged to apply in case additional funds are made available in the future.
