Broome County's STOP-DWI Holiday Classic Ranked As One Of The Nation's Top High School Basketball Events
BINGHAMTON, NY - The November 14th edition of Hoops USA, a national high school basketball publication, ranked the Broome County STOP-DWI Holiday Classic as one of the top 30 high school basketball events in the United States.
Hoops USA reviewed more than 170 events nationally and based rankings on the number of top 100 rated teams and ranked players participating in each tournament. This year's STOP-DWI Holiday Classic has four (4) top 100 ranked teams, three of which are in the top 20 of their respective poll: from the national private/prep school rankings #11 Simon-Gratz (Philadelphia) and #14 Gonzaga (Washington, DC) and representing the national public school poll #18 Rice High School (New York City).
The Broome County STOP-DWI Holiday Classic is also one of only eight (8) events ranked in the top 30 that is played during the holiday time period. The review covered tournaments scheduled from November 2003 through February 2004.
"The STOP-DWI Holiday Classic is perhaps the most unique high school athletic event nationally, in that its primary mission is to educate high school athletes about substance abuse and healthy life styles. With this ranking the tournament now joins an elite group of events. Hopefully this will broaden the tournament's message and showcase the quality of life we have here in Broome County", said Jeff Kraham, Broome County Executive.
"On behalf of the tournament committee, sponsors and volunteers we are very proud of this ranking. It really speaks to the quality basketball the STOP-DWI Holiday Classic offers", said Jim May, Broome County STOP-DWI Coordinator.
