Broome County To Receive FEMA Money For August 2003 Blackout

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive, Jeff Kraham today announced that Broome County and several of its towns and villages will receive money from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help offset the cost of the August 14th blackout.

Broome County's Office of Emergency Services applied for the funds on behalf of the County as well as the towns and villages and coordinated the effort of securing $29,505.48 in reimbursement money.

"Over a 48 hour period, August 14th - 16th, Broome County and its towns and villages took emergency measures to ensure the health, safety and property of its citizens. This reimbursement has arrived at a time when all levels of government are attempting to cut costs and maintain quality of service to the taxpayer, these funds will aid in that effort," said the County Executive. "I commend the Office of Emergency Services for taking the lead in securing this money," said Mr. Kraham.

Broome County Government - $12, 396.91
Village of Endicott - $4,312.43
Village of Johnson City - $1,759.60
Village of Deposit - $855.22
Town of Dickinson - $976.17
Town of Chenango - $2185.22
Town of Vestal - $3775.43
Town of Kirkwood - $599.84
City of Binghamton - $2644.66
  Total - $29,505.48
