World AIDS Day Events in Binghamton
BINGHAMTON, NY - World AIDS Day will be observed in Binghamton on December 1st. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the epidemic.
Southern Tier residents are invited to participate in local events taking place that day to commemorate those who have died from HIV/AIDS and to increase AIDS awareness:
- At noon there will be a Ceremony of Remembrance at the Trinity Memorial Church, 44 Main St., Binghamton. Free, anonymous rapid HIV testing will be available at the church from 11 a.m. – noon and from 1 – 2 p.m. The rapid HIV testing is provided by the Broome County Health Department.
- At 6 p.m. there will be a candlelight vigil at the Broome County Court House, Court St., Binghamton.
- From 6 – 9 p.m. the Southern Tier AIDS Program will present an exhibition “25 Years of the Epidemic” by various artists commemorating the 25th anniversary of the AIDS epidemic. The exhibition will include poetry, food, music, art, and remembrance and will be held at the Metro Center in downtown Binghamton. A special exhibit “The Faces of HIV/AIDS in the Southern Tier” will be presented by The Art School. Michael Libous, The Metro Center and Cable Positive are sponsoring this event in collaboration with the Southern Tier AIDS Program.
