Keeping Children Safe
BINGHAMTON, NY - It has been proven that child safety seats are effective in reducing death and injury to children from motor vehicle crashes, when used correctly. However, government studies indicate that four out of five car safety seats are either installed or used incorrectly.
To increase the proper use and installation of child safety seats in New York State, the Broome County Sheriff's Department now has two permanent fitting stations where inspections and installations of child safety seats will be conducted by trained technicians, on a regular basis. Beginning Tuesday, December 5, 2000, the Broome County Sheriff's Department, New York State Police, Binghamton Police and Johnson City Police will hold no cost inspections/installations twice a month at the following locations:
First Tuesday of each month - 9:00 a.m. to noon
Broome County Sheriff's Department
Public Safety Building
897 Upper Front Street
Binghamton, NY 13905
Third Tuesday of each month - 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Village of Endicott Fire Station
Madison Avenue
Endicott, NY 13760
Child safety seat checks will be by appointment only. Call the Broome County Sheriff's Community Policing Office at 607.778.2391, at least 24 hours in advance, to schedule an appointment at either fitting station.
