Broome County Mental Health Department Receives High Marks for Care
BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala is pleased to recognize the Broome County Mental Health Department for the successful completion of its Adult Clinic Recertification. The Department’s Adult Clinic was recently reviewed by the New York State Office of Mental Health. Not only did it pass, it received its recertification for the next 36 months. This is the highest certification in the state for Mental Health Clinics. Only 1% of all clinics reviewed receive this status.
In its recertification review, state officials remarked on the department’s “good practices”, “quality assessments” and its success in getting families involved in the treatment of an individual.
“Our Mental Health Department is a shining star in Broome County,” said Executive Fiala. “Our community is fortunate to have such an agency where caring professionals are dedicated to an individual’s mental health and also helping these individual’s achieve personal successes.”
The Broome County Department of Mental Health has a skilled, multidisciplinary staff consisting of: psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, psychologist, social workers, intensive case managers, caseworkers and support staff.
“Our staff’s professionalism and commitment to quality of care is commendable,” said Mental Health Commissioner Art Johnson.
Earlier this year the Broome County Mental Health Department’s Children’s Clinic was reviewed for recertification and it too received the highest certification possible. During the children’s clinic recertification process, some of the reviewers complimented the clinic on its “clear follow up” saying it was one of the best they had seen. Another reviewer commended the department for its participation in the community.
This it he first time in the history of the department that both clinics have received Tier 1 certification. The average number of adult clients served in 2006 is 1,150 and the average number of children and their families is 250.
