Tips for BGM Travelers
BINGHAMTON, NY - As the summer travel season begins, airport officials would like to ensure travelers are current on check-in and security screening procedures at the Greater Binghamton Airport to guarantee that everyone's trip goes as smoothly as possible.
“Recent increases in passenger activity at BGM make timely check in and proper preparation for security screening more important then ever,” said Carl R. Beardsley, Jr. Broome County Commissioner of Aviation. “Early morning departures are especially critical due to the fact that all four airlines serving BGM have originating flights departing at nearly the same time.”
Planning ahead and being prepared for the security screening process can expedite the process greatly. Some things to keep in mind:
Arrive at least one hour prior to departure, check in immediately and proceed as quickly as possible to the security screening area. Keep in mind that the departure time on your ticket or boarding pass is the time the aircraft leaves the gate and that you need to be through security and ready to board the aircraft 20 – 30 minutes prior to the departure time listed on your ticket. (A traveler must also plan a reasonable amount of time to transition through security screening depending on the length of the line at the time of departure.)
Secondly, it is important to be prepared for the security screening process. Passengers should keep in mind that restrictions are still in place on the quantity of liquids, aerosols and gels (LAG) that may be packed into a carry-on bag. In order to transport LAG materials in carry-on luggage, passengers are limited to a quantity of 3.4 ounces of LAG material in a single container. Further, travelers who choose to bring LAG materials in acceptable quantities in their carry on bag must store the container in a quart sized sealable plastic bag. Alternatively, containers holding quantities of LAG materials exceeding 3.4 ounces may be packed in checked-in luggage. Please check our airport website security page for links to helpful hints for security screening for travelers. Medicines are excluded from LAG limits.
Currently, the Greater Binghamton Airport offers service from 4 of the nation's largest airlines with 30 flights per day (approximately 50% of these flights utilize new regional jet aircraft) providing convenient service to most domestic and international destinations. The airlines currently serving the Greater Binghamton area include Delta Connection, Northwest Airlink, United Express and US Airways Express. From these airlines, non-stop service is available to Atlanta, JFK International, Detroit, Washington DC, and Philadelphia, respectively.
