“The influenza (flu) vaccine supply is plentiful this year, and we encourage everyone take advantage of the protection that the influenza vaccine provides,” says Claudia Edwards, Public Health Director for the Broome County Health Department. After receiving the influenza vaccine it usually takes up to two weeks for antibodies to build up in the body and provide protection against the influenza infection.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that the flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. The symptoms of influenza may include fever, headache, tiredness, cough, sore throat, chills and muscle aches. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.

There will be no out of pocket fee for the flu or pneumonia shots for Medicare Part B recipients. Individuals on Medicare must present all insurance cards to staff at the clinic.
