Broome County Health Department Employee Receives Public Health HonorsBINGHAMTON, NY - Kathy Cerny, Director of the Maternal Child Health Division for the Broome County Health Department, was recently named as an honoree to the New York State Public Health Works Honor Role by New York State Commissioner of Health Dr. Richard F. Daines. At the New York State Association of County Health Officials 2008 Annual Public Health Conference that took place at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, Mrs. Cerny was acknowledged for her outstanding work in advancing the health of mothers and children in Broome County. Mrs. Cerny is a registered nurse and has a MBA in Health Care Financing. She has 33 years of experience in public health. Her current position involves overseeing a licensed home care program that provides nursing services and extensive education to expectant mothers and assessments of infants and children. Her work includes enhancing positive parent-child interactions and promoting and protecting the health and wellbeing of high-risk families. Because of Mrs. Cerny's dedication to the wellbeing of children, she is currently leading a local Child Fatality Review Team that will be investigating underlying causes of infant deaths in Broome County.
