Would You Like to be a Classroom Volunteer? Join the Foster Grandparent Program!

-A A +A

Make a meaningful contribution to the community as a Foster Grandparent volunteer.  If you are age 55 or over and would like to spend 15 to 40 hours a week in a day care center, Head Start or K-12 classroom, the Foster Grandparent Program may be just the right fit!  Foster Grandparents are mentors, role models and friends who work one on one with special needs children to help build literacy and social skills.  By engaging in activities such as reading together, talking, listening, and assisting with academic work, Foster Grandparents provide extra support and attention to help children succeed.

Benefits of being a classroom volunteer include:

·        travel reimbursement and a stipend of $2.65 per hour that does not affect eligibility for other benefits (must be income-eligible)

·        a meal each day at the volunteer site

·        the opportunity to socialize and stay active in the community

·        the joy of making a difference in the life of a child
