The Alzheimer’s Project: A Local Discussion

Broome County Office for Aging and the Alzheimer’s Association of Central NY will host local discussions about the Alzheimer’s Project, a documentary produced by HBO.

On Monday, November 2, community members can view “The Memory Loss Tapes” which provides an up-close and personal look at seven individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.  Among the emotionally gripping stories: a mother who fiercely holds onto her simple lifestyle while realizing her memory loss is making it more difficult to do so. Another segment portrays a mother who feels she’s lost her independence after failing a driver’s test. Discussion will follow.

On Monday, November 9, the group will view two additional segments of the series. “Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am?” captures what it means to be a family member of someone with the disease. “Caregivers” highlights the sacrifices and successes of people who have stood by a family member during the progression of the illness. Discussion will follow.

Both discussions will be at the Stay Healthy Center in the Oakdale Mall from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Seating is limited to 25. Call Office for Aging at 778-2411 to reserve your space. While participants are encouraged to attend both sessions, it is not essential.
