Is taking better care of your health one of your New Year’s resolutions? Are you ready to enjoy living your life to the fullest? The Living Healthy Workshop—for seniors with any chronic health condition—and The Living Healthy with Diabetes Workshop— for seniors with diabetescan help you do just that. Caregivers of seniors with chronic conditions are also welcome to participate.

 
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the Office for Aging are offering these free chronic disease self-management workshops developed by the Stanford Patient Education Research Center. Workshops meet once a week for six weeks; each workshop lasts 2 ½ hours. People who take this class report feeling better and having more energy.
 
Participants learn techniques that help them better manage health conditions and maintain or improve health. Strategies include problem solving and action planning skills; relaxation and pain management techniques are also included. Establishing exercise and nutrition goals and improving communication skills are an important part of the program. Participants receive a free textbook and compact disc: a $50.00 value.
 
Having arthritis, asthma, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hepatitis or high blood pressure can be challenging, but there is a healthy way to live with your health problems. By making the choice to be an active manager of your own health, you can increase your physical capability and derive more pleasure from life. Classes are forming now.
