Positive Aging Academy: A Primer on Purposeful Living
You’ve worked for 35-40 years and you’re looking forward to retirement --or are you? OK, you are looking forward to retirement, but not to aging. What will the next 30 or 35 years be like? Will there be too much time on your hands? What if your “bucket list” takes just six months to complete? What will you do then?
The Positive Aging Academy is designed to re-examine, rediscover and redirect who you are, where you belong and what you care about. It will introduce techniques that will help you learn how to live well in the second half of life. It will focus on a healthy and happy aging process and on the development of a purpose for the years to come.
A series of free workshops will be offered on six successive Tuesday afternoons from October 6 through November 10 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The workshops will be at Broome West Senior Center, 2801 Wayne St., Endwell. They are designed as a progression—with each workshop building on prior workshops, but it is not essential that you attend all of the workshops to benefit. Registration is required. Class size is limited to 30.
The series covers:
- October 6: Blue Zones: Places where high numbers of people reach age 100 or more—and the factors that contribute to longevity.
- October 13: Memoir: The value of reflecting on and recording your life and legacy.
- October 20: Living on Purpose: Activities and causes that satisfy, fulfill or guide you.
- October 27: Health through Social Connections: Revisiting the importance of relationships.
- November 3: Money Issues: Know what you value, then “money” will come.
- November 10: Stripping Down for Purposeful Living: How to downsize life--leaving more time for purpose-driven activities.
Each workshop features a variety of activities including quizzes, surveys or assessments, media clips, and plenty of participant sharing.
