Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

-A A +A

Do you ever wonder if you’re recycling too much or too little?  Do you follow the County’s guidelines for what can and cannot be recycled at curbside?  Have you wondered why plastic bottles are okay but not plastic tops?  How come pizza boxes used to be forbidden but now they’re okay to recycle at the curb?

Conscious recyclers might occasionally put into the yellow boxes items that aren’t acceptable within the program. What happens to them?  What happens to the stuff that we recycle properly?  Debra Smith, Broome County Division of Solid Waste Management, Materials Recovery Manager, will describe the program and tell us more about what happens after our recycling is picked up.  We may be surprised and very pleased to learn about the efforts made to “close the loop” from waste to useable new products.

The talk is on Tuesday, October 11 at 3 PM at Broome West Senior Center, 2801 Wayne St., Endwell. The public is invited.  No registration is required. It’s part of the monthly Downsize and Declutter Discussions that are held on the second Tuesday of each month (with the exception of November 15 due to the general election).  We’ll bring samples of what we recycle and see if we’re on the right track.  Call Joan at 778-6206 if you have questions.

Thank you for recycling instead of putting everything in the trash.  Keep decluttering!!
