Representatives from gas drilling businesses and local training providers will be available to explain jobs and training courses related to the gas drilling currently underway in Pennsylvania and projected in New York.

 

“We want local job seekers to be aware of the job requirements and training programs associated with this type of work,” said Terry R. Stark, Director of the Broome-Tioga Workforce Investment Board. 

 

“These companies are currently recruiting technicians, truck drivers, laborers, and other positions, and we know that there are local persons with these skills who would consider this type of work, if they knew more about the expectations of these employers,” she said.

 

The session will begin at 9:00 a.m. with an information session on employment and training related to the gas drilling industry. At least three gas drilling employers will recruit interested persons for employment from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

 

Participating employers include SOS Staffing, Express Employment Professionals and Superior Wells. Local schools, such as Broome-Tioga BOCES, and Broome Community College, are also expected to attend to discuss training programs.

 

Broome-Tioga Workforce New York operates two One Stop Centers to provide local residents with employment assistance and career advice, and to assist businesses with recruiting and training. The Workforce New York offices are located at 171 Front Street in Binghamton, and at the Tioga County Human Services building located on Route 38 in Owego.
