Rabies Information

The Broome County Health Department sponsors RABIES CLINICS throughout locations in Broome County. All pets (dogs, cats, ferrets) must be at least 12 weeks old and properly restrained by the owner or responsible adult. If the pet has had a prior vaccine, please bring the rabies vaccination certificate with you. A $5.00 donation is requested. For questions, please call the Broome County Health Department at 607.778.2887.

Vaccination Law

There has been a recent change in the state law and all dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets are required to be vaccinated against rabies by the time they are 4 months of age (they can be vaccinated at 3 months of age - but no younger than that). The law also changed requiring all dogs in New York State must be licensed by the time they are 4 months of age and that license must be renewed each year - in order to license you must have a current rabies vaccination for your dog. This went into effect on November 20, 2002.
