(Binhgamton-NY) Following the holdays, the Broome County Division of Solid Waste is urging residents to recycle Christmas trees. Christmas trees are recycled into mulch or compost and used in local parks. Several drop off locations have been established throughout the county (see listing) . Christmas trees must be free of decorations, plastic and tinsel before disposal. Residents with private curbside service should contact their garbabge hauler for more information.
FREE Drop-off Locations: BROOME COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY!
Grippen Park, Endicott: Will accept trees from December 26 – January 2.
The trees are chipped and spread along hiking trails in the parks.
Town of Union: Highland Park (off Hooper Road), Glendale Park, William Hill Park (Westover), and Choconut Center Park.
NYSDEC Sub-office, Kirkwood: Will accept trees between 8am and 4pm at 1679 Route 11. The trees are chipped and spread along hiking trails in the parks.
Broome County Landfill, 286 Knapp Road, Binghamton: Will accept trees at the residential drop-off area located at the landfill from December 26-January 30. Open Monday through Friday, 7am-2:45pm, Saturday 7am –11:45am. The trees are chipped and composted.
