Public Information Meeting Notice: Regarding Work on Chenango Street in Binghamton

(BINGHAMTON, NY) The Broome County Department of Public Works (BCDPW) is continuing work on the Chenango Street Pedestrian Improvements Project. A public information meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the Children’s Home of Wyoming Conference - Galloway Building at 1182 Chenango Street Binghamton, NY 13901.

This federally‐funded project is currently in the Preliminary Design Phase, and Construction is scheduled for the summer months of 2022.

The project will remove and replace the majority of the existing sidewalk along the west side of Chenango Street from Dickinson Avenue to Mead Road. New sidewalk is being proposed on the east side of Chenango Street from Mead Road to Cornish Avenue. The sidewalk will be brought into compliance with the current Americans with Disabilities Act standards to provide a safe and accessible pedestrian route along Chenango Street. The project will include sidewalk widening, curb ramp alterations and improvements and pavement marking and signage improvements within the project corridor. Curb ramps will also be installed at locations along the east side of Chenango Street within the project limits.

To complete this work, and to properly restore driveways and adjacent lawn areas, BCDPW will be requesting permission to access small portions of private property directly adjacent to the proposed sidewalk.

At this meeting representatives from BCDPW will be able to answer any questions as well as describe the nature of the project and the proposed project timeframe. Social distanced seating will be provided. Masks are required.

If you have questions or comments prior to that date, please feel free to contact Tom Sullivan at Broome County Department of Public Works at (607) 778-2496.
