New Director Welcomes Visitors Back for Summer Activities

(ENDWELL, NY) After more than a year of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Broome County Office for Aging announced Thursday that County senior centers and the adult day programs have officially reopened. The eight senior centers and two adult day programs are once again offering in-person lunch, as well as classes, group activities, exercise, and more. Activities are being offered five days a week, with a total of more than 30 different things to do. Senior centers are open to all older adults 60+.  The adult day programs are an option for the 60+ population that is frail, isolated or memory impaired who require more of a structured supportive environment to socialize.  To find out which activities are happening, individuals are encouraged to call their local center or adult day program.

In addition to welcoming people back to our senior centers and adult day programs, County Executive Jason Garnar also formerly introduced the new Director for the Office for Aging, Mary Whitcombe. Whitcombe joins OFA after serving as Manager of Emergency Services for Catholic Charities of Broome County. She replaces Lisa Schuhle, who retired this spring after 35 years in various roles with OFA.
