VFW Bridge Sustains Minor Damage

Limited-Lane Access Expected Over the Next Week

(BROOME COUNTY, NY) – The VFW Memorial Bevier Street Bridge was damaged overnight by a fire set under the bridge. The fire was extinguished by the Binghamton Fire Department. However, due to this damage, the bridge was closed to all traffic.

According to DPW Commissioner Roger Brown, P.E., the bridge is being inspected by Broome County Engineers with assistance from NYS DOT. The bridge is expected to reopen with a center lane closure later today. Lane closures are expected to last for the next five days while repairs are completed. Motorists are asked to use alternative routes when possible.

The South entrance to Otsiningo Park will also reopen later today, there are no changes to the Festival of Lights schedule.
