Broome County Supports Affordable Senior Housing Improvements through Small Community Fund

Broome County Legislature Chairman & 5th District Legislator Dan J. Reynolds, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, 9th District Broome County Legislator Matthew Hilderbrant, and Representatives from The SEPP Group revealed improvements made to the Whitney Point Senior Apartments facility, a two-story affordable senior housing development located in the Village of Whitney Point, on Thursday. The complex includes twenty-four one-bedroom apartments.

SEPP was awarded $40,000 from Broome County’s Small Community Fund to complete a window replacement project which called for the removal of the original, thirty-three-year-old second-story building windows and installation of new, energy-efficient windows. The work was completed by Cutmore Construction, Inc., a local contractor in Port Crane.

"This is an example of Broome County's commitment to addressing the various housing needs throughout our community,” says Broome County Executive Jason Garnar. “Our Small Community Fund was created for projects just like this where a one-time investment can have a lasting impact in Broome County. I appreciate Chairman Dan Reynolds and the entire County Legislature for working with us on this important project."

“Broome County continues to make significant investments throughout our area by utilizing the Small Community Fund Program,” says Broome County Legislature Chairman & 5th District Legislator Dan J. Reynolds. “This funding has allowed SEPP to make much-needed improvements to enhance the quality of life for these seniors in Northern Broome.

“Organizations in Northern Broome County have greatly benefited from the Small Community Fund Program,” says 9th District Broome County Legislator Matthew Hilderbrant. “Whether it’s new recreational developments or improvements to housing, this grant fund continues to bring community projects to life.”

“The Community Improvement Grant enabled us to replace all of the second story windows at our Whitney Point Apartments and shows how important small communities are to our County Executive and members of the Broome County Legislature,” says SEPP Executive Director John Bernardo. “This project would have been delayed for years without the public-private partnership afforded us by our county leaders.”

Broome County’s Small Community Fund was established in 2018 and awards grants to non-profit organizations and local municipalities.
