County Executive Launches "Ride and Read" Program

BC Transit Partners with Local Libraries to Provide Books on Buses

(CITY OF BINGHAMTON, NY) Broome County Executive Jason Garnar was joined today by Broome County Transit Commissioner Gregory Kilmer, and Director of Four County Library System Steven Bachman to announce the launch of “Ride and Read,” a new literacy program to put books on County buses.

“I am so excited to partner with our great libraries to bring books to Broome County buses,” said County Executive Garnar. “We are making books a convenient option for riders of all ages. I hope our transit customers take a book and find a new favorite every time they ride.”

“Ride and Read” encourages transit riders to take a book from the bus, read it on their journey or take it home, and return it to the bus when they’ve finished.

All the books have been generously donated by Broome County libraries.

“We are thrilled to partner with Broome County and with our member libraries to support literacy and the joy of reading by placing books on BC Transit buses,” said Steven Bachman, Director of Four County Library System. “By doing so, we hope to help foster and nurture a love of reading in Broome County.”

“Ride and Read” books can be found on bus routes in Broome County starting today.
