Kraham Proclaims April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

WHO:  The Family Violence Prevention Council of Broome County

WHEN:  April 2, 2004 @ 10:30 a.m.

WHERE:  Cornell Cooperative Extension Auditorium, 840 Front Street, Binghamton, NY

WHAT:  Press Conference to bring awareness to the issues of child abuse and neglect; Proclamation by County Executive Mr. Jeffrey Kraham and a short demonstration of the Child Assault Prevention Program by Crime Victims Assistance Center.

WHY:  Since 1983, when April was designated Child Abuse Prevention Month, communities across the country have used this month-long observance to increase awareness of child abuse and its prevention. It is a time when individuals, schools, business, hospitals, religious organizations, and social service agencies join forces in the battle against child abuse and neglect.

Child abuse and neglect is a serious social and public health issue. The impact of abuse has far greater effects, then those you can immediately see and they can last a lifetime.
