National Foster Care Month To Be Recognized In Broome County

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive, Jeff Kraham will proclaim May as Foster Care Month in Broome County on Wednesday, May 5th at 10:30 a.m. at the Broome County Public Library, 185 Court Street Binghamton, NY. Throughout the month of May there will be an informational display available at the Library to inform County residents about foster care and perhaps considering becoming a foster parent. In addition to the display, informational meetings will be held during the month about foster parenting.

Currently there are 66 certified foster homes in Broome County that provide 183 children and youth with a safe, secure and stable home. These foster families play a vital role in helping children and families heal, reconnect and prepare for successful adulthood. Foster Care Month recognizes not only the efforts and contributions of foster parents to this community but also the numerous individuals and organizations who work to increase public awareness of the needs of children in foster care.

For more information on becoming a foster parent in Broome County or on the foster care system please contact Don Bowersox, Supervisor of the Adoption Home Finding Unit for the Broome County Department of Social Services at 607.778.2533.
