Broome County Secures Basketball & Softball Championship Sites

(BROOME COUNTY, NY) –On Wednesday, Broome County was selected to host the Softball and Boys’ Basketball State Championships for 2025- ‘27. The Boys’ Basketball State Championship will be held at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, and the Softball State Championship will be in the new Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park, previously known as BAGSAI.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said, “This is a huge win for Broome County on multiple levels. It benefits our hotels, restaurants, and local economy. It’s an honor to have been selected to host these NYSPHSAA championship events, and it validates our efforts as others from outside our region take notice in very tangible ways. We look forward to showing off our top-notch facilities, and our county as a whole, as Broome County is a place where championships are played, and champions are made.”

The boys’ basketball tournament was held in Broome County in 2017, 2018, and 2019. BAGSAI last hosted the softball tournament in 2008.

“We are beyond excited to be chosen by NYSPHSAA as the winning bid to host the 2025-2027 Softball Championships at Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park,” said Brenda Gowe, Broome County Parks, Recreation & Youth Services Director. “Many Broome County employees, SUNY Broome employees, Section IV and Visit Bing Staff contributed to compile a strong proposal and we can’t wait to showcase our beautiful, state-of-the-art facility to student athletes, coaches, parents, and fans from across the state. We feel that Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park is the type of facility that New York State softball players deserve to play at, and we are so excited to welcome folks to Broome County to show them everything we have to offer.”

Chris Marion, Visions Veterans Memorial Arena & Forum Director said, “We are proud to host the New York State Boys Basketball Championships at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena beginning in 2025. Having high school athletes compete for a championship in the Arena is truly an honor. We look forward to providing these student athletes and the thousands of patrons that attend the games with a venue worthy of the memories they’ll be creating right here in Downtown Binghamton.”
