2005 Joyce K.L. Smith Environmental Photography Show To Be Displayed At Broome County Public Library

BINGHAMTON, NY - Winning and honorable mention photographs from the Broome County Environmental Management Council's (EMC) 2005 Joyce K. L. Smith Environmental Photography Show & Competition, will be displayed at the Broome County Public Library, 185 Court Street, in downtown Binghamton, from May 4 through June 29, 2005. The public is welcome to attend an opening reception and awards ceremony, Wednesday, May 4 from 5 to 7 pm in the second floor exhibit gallery of the Library. Refreshments will be served. Elevators are available and accessible. Library hours are 9:00 am - 8:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Fridays and Saturdays.
Entrants to the Joyce K.L. Smith Environmental Photography Show & Competition submitted photographs in five categories: Wildlife; Plantlife; Natural Landscape; Cultural Landscape; and People in Action. The EMC received 205 submissions from 78 amateur photographers. Competition judges selected one winner and up to five honorable mentions in each competition category. First place winners are posted at www.goBroomeCounty.com/emc.
Event co-sponsors Garland Gallery, Binghamton; Allstate Glass, Binghamton, and Silver Image Photographics, Vestal, furnished prizes.
The intent of show is to portray all aspects of Broome County's natural and cultural surroundings and the work of Broome County citizens and the EMC to preserve and improve them. The show and competition, now in its ninth year honors Joyce K.L. Smith, a local environmental and political activist. The Joyce K.L. Smith Memorial Fund was established in 1999 by her family to foster the EMC's environmental education efforts. Contributions to the Fund are welcome and appreciated.
