Seminar Helps To Identify the "Drugged" Driver

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County STOP-DWI will be hosting a "Drugs That Impair Driving" seminar on May 13th at the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy in Binghamton, New York.

"Drugs That Impair Driving" is being sponsored by the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation through funding from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee. Area police, prosecutors, probation officers and educators have been invited to attend.

The goal of the conference is to train criminal justice and education professionals to better recognize when a person may be under the influence of drugs other than alcohol.

James F. May, Broome County STOP-DWI Coordinator says "that while alcohol is by far the most prevalent "drug" involved with impaired driving - other drugs play a very big role. And, the interaction of alcohol and other drugs when taken together also create an increased and often deadly hazard on our roadways. This seminar will review the observable effects of each of the seven major categories of drugs and from the various combination of drugs."
